How to Choose the Right Yoga Gear
You don't have to be a certified yogi to invest in great quality yoga gear. Choosing the right yoga mat and proper yoga leggings can make the world of a difference to your practice. Here are a few tips to look for when choosing your yoga equipment (whether you're a beginner or expert!)
The texture of a yoga mat is important - it's the difference between a yoga mat that's grippy and one that's slippery. Depending on how much you slide around on the mat, you'll want to look for one with a textured surface, that way you can maintain your balance when it comes to more strenuous poses.
Much like the texture, the thickness of a mat is also something to consider when choosing a yoga mat. Believe it or not, yoga mats do come in a variety of sizes and weights. Generally speaking, thinner mats with a grippy surface are great for yoga practices that require more stability and activity. Thicker mats have more cushion and work best for slower therapeutic practices like deep stretches and restorative yoga.
Due to the popularity of yoga, there are so many yoga mat choices and price points, some better than others depending on what matters to you. The most common materials are made from:
- PVC – a commonly used thermoplastic material sometimes referred to as vinyl. Although this material is latex-free, it's not a great option for the eco-conscious since it's not recyclable and it contains potentially harmful chemicals for your health and home.
- TPE – which stands for thermoplastic elastomer. This has recently become another popular option for yoga mats since the material is earth-friendly and recyclable. Most yoga mats made with TPE also contain no toxic phthalates or heavy metals, making it a great choice for your health too.
Kulae is a great option if you're looking for an eco-friendly, quality yoga mat. The stylish mats are made from latex-free TPE and come in different weights, colors and sizes!
I don't know about you, but I've had my fair share of yoga leggings that just did not hold up to my standards. Some pairs have lasted me years, while others have lost their shape and started to pill in a matter of weeks! That's why the material really makes a difference, especially if you are looking to spend a little more money on some higher quality leggings.
Look for materials that are breathable, comfortable and durable, like a Polyamide/Spandex blend. Polyamide is an excellent material for workout wear and is used quite often, and the spandex adds a little stretch so you can feel comfortable during your exercise.
It's easy to stick with the classic black leggings, but sometimes you just want something a little more fun. Colorful and vibrant prints will elevate your mood and make you stand out!
Liquido makes a fantastic line of yoga and activewear with eco-friendly fabrics and ethical working conditions. What makes this line really special are the bright prints that are never repeated, so you can rock an exclusive design! Not to mention they're buttery-soft and biodegradable too, a win-win for you and the environment.
