Yes She May: Reflecting On Our Journey

Looking back at the first half of the year, it’s been a challenging start for many. With all challenges comes a time for opportunity and reflection.

While the coronavirus left many people sick, and devastated businesses small and large, it’s helpful to look at the silver lining. For many, the pandemic has caused families to become closer; connecting with friends and relatives that have lost touch over the years. Behind the struggling businesses and store owners, are an outreach of great support from their communities. As our nation grieved over the killing of George Floyd, a powerful moment ensued; bringing an awareness and call to action over the racial inequality that’s been going on for hundreds of years.

Back in March, our company ran into our own challenge: how can we help women-owned businesses grow? Up until that point, we worked hard for months on a business that would provide women with marketing, mentorship, education and financial services.

That’s when we realized, we needed to be the change we wanted to see. Aside from access to capital, the other challenge women business owners face is the access to market. So, we built our own e-commerce site (www.yesshemay.com), centered around connection, sustainability, thoughtfulness, creativity and most importantly - supporting the growth of women-owned business.

As we close out the first week of our launch, we are excited to introduce a curated collection of women-owned brands ranging from the U.S., Morocco, China, France, and South Korea.

Unlike the traditional online shopping experience that focuses on transaction, we encourage people to purchase with intent. Try a new brand, support a cause, buy from black-owned, locally owned, minority-owned, women-owned. Do what you can to support the people around you. Put the dollars back into entrepreneurs who develop innovative products that provide value. If you have the luxury to purchase, do so with intention.
